We speak English. Full legal assistance for foreign spouses and international property owners in Brazil.Versão em português

Can I resolve all of this while living outside Brazil?

Yes, in most cases. If you live abroad and own property, an inheritance or a lawsuit in any Brazilian state, you do not need to come to Brazil to resolve it. Through e-Notariado, the official platform of Brazilian notary offices, you join a short video call with a notary from your phone and sign a power of attorney digitally. With it, our law firm, based in Bom Jesus de Goiás (state of Goiás), handles the rest with real estate registries, notary offices and courts across Brazil through electronic proceedings.

Frequently asked questions

Questions from clients who live abroad

Do you only work in Goiás?

No. Our office is based in Bom Jesus de Goiás (Goiás) and in-person meetings are held in Goiás, but we work throughout Brazil. e-Notariado works with notary offices across the country, court proceedings are electronic, and hearings can be held by video. Your property, inheritance or case can be in any state, and you can live in any country.

Do I need to travel to Brazil to sell or regularize a property?

In many cases, no. With an electronic power of attorney made through e-Notariado, or signed at the nearest Brazilian consulate, we can represent you in property transactions. Each case depends on the type of act and the registry involved, and we assess this at the first contact.

What is e-Notariado?

It is the platform of Brazil's notary offices, run by the Brazilian Notary College (Colégio Notarial do Brasil) and regulated by Provimento No. 100/2020 of the National Council of Justice (CNJ). It allows notarial acts, such as a power of attorney, to be made by video call with a notary and signed digitally with nationwide validity.

Can I handle probate and receive my inheritance while living abroad?

Yes. When all heirs are adults and agree, probate can be done at a notary office, which is usually faster. If there is disagreement, or minor or incapacitated heirs, probate is judicial and conducted electronically. In both cases you can be represented by a power of attorney. Brazilian law sets a two-month period to open probate after the death.

Can I get divorced in Brazil while living in another country?

Yes. An uncontested divorce with no minor or incapacitated children can be done at a notary office, and spouses may be represented by attorneys-in-fact. Other cases go to court. We also assess case by case how foreign documents and decisions take effect in Brazil.

Are my foreign documents valid in Brazil?

As a rule, documents issued abroad need an Apostille under the Hague Convention, to which Brazil is a party, and a sworn translation into Portuguese. We tell you which documents are needed in each case.

Do you work in English?

Yes. We speak English. We assist Brazilians abroad, foreign spouses and international property owners in Brazil, in English and Portuguese.
